Dear Friends,
Tomorrow afternoon, we gather—and we do so on the crest of an unusually powerful full moon. Did you feel the pull? The moon was not only eclipsing, she was red and "bloody." This week we experienced the glacier collapse in Nepal, the passing of Dolly Parton, and the blurring of time for many. I heard people all day on Thursday confusing with Wednesday and Friday.
The moon has her pull on our world and our psyches, and it growing.
The Emerald Tent is well timed to respond . . .
Our August Story
Our story for August is the old Russian folktale of Vasilisa and the little doll.
When Vasilisa loses her mother, she is given a tiny doll and a simple instruction: when you are lost and do not know what to do, feed the doll—and ask.
I felt called to bring this story this month to help us turn on the magic of knowing. At a time when the world is spiraling through uncertainty, fear and loss of people we love, of work, health, security, relationships, or simply the world as we thought we knew it, the call is towards wholeness. Towards reclaiming something we lost to modernity, but still is our birthright.
Across time, human beings have bridged deep questions to things that cannot be answered in ordinary words. We've emotionally connected with an ocean, a mountain, a tree, an ancestor, a sacred object. Little did we know, but we were activating the magic of a oneness.
We will explore the act of placing a question somewhere outside ourselves—somewhere it can live without fear, judgment or urgency—and we'll discover what happens next.
It is through this story, reflection, somatic practice and conversation, that we'll center on intuition, inner knowing, and the quiet forms of magic that can help us find our way through a both a beautiful and brutal world.
